The Problem with Group Expenses
When traveling with friends or living with roommates, expenses get complicated fast. Alice pays for dinner, Bob pays for the Airbnb, and Charlie buys the groceries. Figuring out who owes whom usually results in a messy web of dozens of small transactions.
How We Simplify It
Our Debt Simplifier uses a greedy minimum-transaction algorithm (based on Graph Theory). First, it calculates the net balance for every person (Total Paid - Total Share Owed). Then, it systematically matches the person who owes the most with the person who is owed the most, instantly eliminating redundant payments.
- Without Simplification: Alice pays Bob $10, Bob pays Charlie $10.
- With Simplification: Alice pays Charlie $10 directly (saves 1 transaction).
Perfect For:
- Roommate monthly utility and rent splits.
- Group vacations and road trips.
- Bachelorette/Bachelor parties and event planning.
